Caitlinn Foord

Caitlinn Foord is currently completing a Bachelor of Fine
Arts at the Victorian College of the Arts. Through the study of optics, colour
theory and psychology, she investigates ways to replicate the visual and
psychological effects of observable light phenomena in her painting and spatial
practice.
In her series Paula Taught Me How to See, Foord has methodically applied numerous layers of oil paint to her canvases, generating the refraction and diffusion of light and creating surfaces that appear to vibrate and illuminate. The archetypal circle is repeatedly employed as a compositional starting point, like a light source. It is then sculpted by the brush in an intuitive painting process, allowing each work to form its own entity.
