Haydens is pleased to present T̓łat̓ła̱sk̓udis Sointula a solo exhibition by Fiona Williams.
The works presented for Haydens are the result of time on residency in the small island community of T̓łat̓ła̱sk̓udis Sointula in the north island region, the Kwakwaka'wakw Territories, in British Columbia, Canada.
Many hours on the island were passed outside. The series of paintings shown here were developed later in a moment of focus and rest, forming quickly – they appear like a flash.
Fiona Williams is a visual artist born and based in Naarm Melbourne. She has a BFA (Hons) and MFA (research) from Monash University and has undertaken residencies at The Banff Centre in Canada, RM in Aotearoa New Zealand, and Sointula Art Shed in Canada.
Fiona makes images intuitively and in response to her environment – moving between painting, drawing, photography, and video – often utilising the process of making and configuring images to draw attention to subtle aspects of pictorial space and differing registers of time.
Recent exhibitions: Photograph video: the garden 1, 2024, Window Gallery, T̓łat̓ła̱sk̓udis Sointula, Canada; never together, 2023, Futures Gallery, Naarm Melbourne ; Equinox, 2022, St Paul St Gallery, AUT, Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland; Cohabitants, 2022, Favour, Ōtepoti Dunedin, NZ; What's outside the window?, 2020, online, Reading Room, Naarm Melbourne; Elbow-room in the universe, 2020, Enjoy Contemporary Art Space,Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington; ( ... ), 2019, David, Naarm Melbourne.
